I don't need a good chair, I haven't got a back problem.

Is something we hear on a regular basis. However, poor posture over time will invariably cause back and other musculoskeletal issues and prevention is a lot easier than cure. So, how can you protect yourself from future issues. Firstly, you don't need to spend a huge amount of money on a chair, but you do need a good quality one, which has a full range of adjustment and fits you. Secondly, it needs to be adjusted correctly. It doesn't matter how much you spend on a chair, if it is not properly adjusted, you may as well be sitting on a box. An ideal chair would have height adjustment, adjustable back height and rake with a tilting seat and an inflatable lumbar support is also necessary for some people.

With a good quality chair correctly adjusted, the next item to concentrate on is the layout of your display screen equipment (DSE). There is plenty of information available on the internet regarding correct setup of your workstation, but if you would like further help, we can advise or carry out a DSE assessment.
